Town Hall Meeting to Fight the Stigma of Mental Illness
A Town Hall Meeting to Fight the Stigma of Mental Illness has been scheduled for Friday, October 20, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Two Harbors High School Cafeteria. The goal of the Town Hall Meeting is to spread the word that those suffering from mental illness are not alone, that many local resources are available to provide help, and that people with mental illness can and do recover.
The event will feature a showing of the documentary “No Kidding, Me 2!”. The DVD features candid discussions with six people from all walks of life that have each been affected differently by a variety of mental illnesses. Each of them frankly discusses the struggle before they were diagnosed, including attempts to self-medicate and other destructive behaviors, as well as the hope and encouragement they discovered when they realized they were not alone and began managing their own recovery.
The event will also include educational information about mental illness and mental health resources that are available in the area, as well as a question and answer session. Local mental health providers are being invited to attend and share information about the specific services they offer. Refreshments will be served and attendees can register for door prizes.
This event is being sponsored by the Lake County Local Mental Health Task Force. The mission of the Lake County Local Mental Health Task Force is to advocate for all Lake County residents such programs and services that promote mental health wellness.
