Lake SWCD is the designated water planning authority for Lake County and administers the water plan for Lake SWCD and Lake County. The Lake County Local Water Management Plan and Lake Superior North One Watershed, One Plan also currently serve as the Comprehensive Plan for Lake SWCD through 2028.
Lake County, along with other Counties in the State of Minnesota, are in the process of transitioning from Comprehensive Local Water Management Planning (based on County boundaries) to Watershed Management Planning (based on watershed boundaries). At conclusion of this transition, which is dependent on partner readiness and willingness, the Lake County Comprehensive Local Water Management Plan will be replaced by the following watershed-based plans:
- Lake Superior North One Watershed, One Plan (Adopted)
- St. Louis River One Watershed, One Plan (In Progress)
- Rainy River Headwaters One Watershed, One Plan (Not Yet Begun)
