Civil Issues

The Lake County Attorney’s Office provides legal advice and support to all county departments, including giving advice, developing departmental policies with department staff, and drafting documents and other materials for their assigned departments.

The county attorney also represents Lake County, its departments, and employees in litigation matters. The county attorney appears in State District Court, Court of Appeals, and Supreme Court; Workers’ Compensation Court; Tax Court; Federal District Court; and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Types of litigation include tort (negligence) claims, workers’ compensation claims, real property tax appeals, labor law, civil rights, employment law, land use and environmental enforcement, and civil forfeitures arising from criminal matters.

The Lake County Attorney’s office does not represent individual citizens and cannot give legal advice.
