There are many forest pests, or bugs that eat or somehow impact our forest ecosystems, in Minnesota. Forest pests are usually specific to different tree types. Common forest pests in Lake County (and the surrounding area) including spruce budworm, forest tent caterpillar (or “army worms”), gypsy moth, European larch beetle, emerald ash borer, and witches’ broom. Emerald ash borer, an invasive forest pest, is abundant in Duluth but has not yet been found in Lake County. Use this video to learn more about forest pests:
